6301: Educational Administration: Basic Concepts
Cr. 3 per course. (3-0). Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate program
in Educational Leadership or approval of chair. Principles and theory
of administration; governance and organization; basic activities of educational
management such as supervision, financial and business management, and
personnel relations.
6310: Interpersonal Communications
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate program in Educational
Leadership or approval of chair. Development of administrative competence
through laboratory experiences using the class to simulate an organization.
Emphasis on interpersonal and group relations, using instrumented and
clinical procedures.
6320: Instructional Supervision

Student Support

personnel services in higher education.
6330: Finance and School-Based Budgeting
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate program in Educational
Leadership or approval of chair. Examines school budget development; purchasing
and disbursement systems; and school accounting systems.
6332: IStudent Development/Student Affairs
Cr. 3. (3-0). The college student affairs profession is emphasized through
the historical, philosophical, psychological, and sociological development
of its student service functions.
6336: The Two-Year College
Cr. 3. (3-0). Demographic and educational diversity of today's college
students coupled with an understanding of various socio-economic barriers
to education and identification of those institutional practices that
increase feelings of student inclusion.
6340: Student Persistence: Theories & Preventions
Cr. 3. (3-0). The impact of various factors on student persistence and
how these factors may be used to decrease attrition rates.
6350: School Leadership

6301, and admission to the graduate program in Educational Leadership
or approval of chair. Organization and management of elementary and secondary
school unit; second course: practice in administrative tasks.
6360: Public School Law

Leadership or approval of chair. Legal principles involved in operating
educational systems; authority, responsibility, liability, and appeals;
Texas educational law and significant court holdings.
6370: Research for Educational Leaders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: EPSY
6300 or corequisite, and admission to the graduate program in Educational
Leadership or approval of chair. Implications of concepts and theories
of a multicultural society for practices and policy development in educational
administration.
6380: Educational Planning and Policy Development
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate program in Educational
Leadership or approval of chair. A study of the structure of school governance
and the process of policy development and implementation in today's schools.
6392: Practicum in Educational Administration Cr.3.(3-0). Role of administrator in hypothetical
school or university setting. Theories of administration applied to practice in simulated problem-
solving and decision-making situations. Management competencies specifically addressed are
leadership, decision-making, problem analysis, and organizing and planning.
6393: Internship in Educational Leadership
Cr. 1-3 per semester. (1-3; 2-6; 3-9). Prerequisites: Admission to the
graduate program in Educational Leadership or approval of chair, and approval
of internship coordinator and advisor. Supervised internship experiences
in educational leadership and cultural studies. Includes participation
in seminars.

introduction to management of colleges and universities; analysis of development of higher

models, management processes, and program resources. Primarily concerned with higher education.
7340: Organization and Administration of the Curriculum Cr. 3. (3-0). Approaches to curriculum
coordination from an administrative point of view. Current organizational plans, instructional
management, and forces that influence curriculum decision making.
7343: Educational Finance Cr. 3. (3-0). Economic relationships and problems in local, state, and
national financial support of education; federal participation, state financial systems, local taxation,
and indebtedness.
7346: Education Facilities and Environment Cr.3.(3-0). Planning educational facilities and learning
environments; program analysis for facility planning; administration of building projects; plant
maintenance and operation.
7350: Personnel Management Cr. 3. (3-0). Problems in personnel planning, selection, classification,
compensation, direction, appraisal, and human relationships of educational employees of all
categories.
7352: Behavioral Science for Educational Administrators Cr. 3. (3-0). Current and emerging
theories in the behavioral sciences, emphasizing their implications for policies and practices in
school administration.
7354: Leadership for Change Cr. 3. (3-0). Study of the role of educational leadership in facilitating
and enhancing the change process.
7360: Public Affairs and Community Relations
Cr. 3. (3-0). Purposes, functions, and practices of information, communications,
and public affairs programs related to education. External and internal
communication techniques are emphasized.

Simulation of, and field experiences in, administering collegiate or technical institutions.

development, organization, and administration of adult education programs by postsecondary
institutions.

Study of community college education the students, institution, and concepts underlying the
programs of instruction. Emphasis on the planning, design, development, implementation, and
evaluation of community/junior college programs.

Introduction of management of colleges, and universities; analysis of development of higher education, including history, finance, personnel and public policy. Emphasis is placed on multicultural settings.
