6301: Production and Operations Management
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing. This course is a survey
of the application of operations management concepts and techniques to
business problems in both manufacturing and service organizations. Topics
include demand forecasting, aggregate production planning, distribution
and manufacturing inventory management, facility location and layout,
materials management, work force and production scheduling, quality management,
service sector operations, and international operations.
6381: Operations Management Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and approval of chair. Survey of the basic concepts, theories, and
techniques for the management of operating systems that involve the design,
operation, and control of systems producing manufactured goods and
services. Topics include forecasting, aggregate planning, materials
planning, project and process control, scheduling, inventory management,
capacity planning, and quality control.
7362: Logistics Management and Systems Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and approval of chair. Logistics, its economic base, and
components.
7367: Product Design Planning and Development Methodology Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and approval of chair. Study of the
structure of the decision sequence in the design, planning, and development
of a product.
7384: Operations Management Internship Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and SCM 6301. A practicum in operations management.
8341: Seminar in Manufacturing Management Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and approval of chair. A survey of current research in manufacturing and distribution, covering topics such as facilities location and layout, project management, manufacturing resource planning, and
distribution requirements planning.
8343: Advanced Seminar in Operations Management Cr. 3. (3-0).
Prerequisites: graduate standing, DISC 6301, and approval of chair.
Application of analytical techniques to problems of production planning,
scheduling, forecasting, and inventory control.
8344: Advanced Research in Aggregate Planning
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing, DISC
6301, or approval of chair. Current issues and trends in aggregate
output planning research, including problem definition and structure,
heuristic and optimizing models, and applications in nonmanufacturing
situations.
8345: Advanced Topics in Design and Planning
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing, SCM
7367, or approval of chair. Study and research into the decision structure
for systems development.
8346: Systems Design for Operations Management Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing, SCM6301, and approval of chair. Applications of advanced techniques to problems in the management and control of dynamic operational systems.
