Scholastic Requirements

In addition to maintaining a cumulative grade point average at or above the minimum of 3.0, graduate students are normally expected to complete all course requirements, or the approved equivalents, in each semester of each level before proceeding to the next semester of the design studio sequence. Deviations from the normal course sequence must be approved by the Director of Graduate Studies.

In addition, the University of Houston and the College of Architecture require that graduate students in the College of Architecture maintain the following standard with respect to grades of C+ or lower:

  • For Level III entrants, a maximum of 11 hours of grades of C+ or lower are allowed
  • For Level II entrants, a maximum of 15 hours of grades of C+ or lower are allowed
  • For Level I entrants, a maximum of 18 hours of grades of C+ or lower are allowed

Any student exceeding these limits will be dropped from the program and will not be allowed to re-enroll for a graduate degree at the University of Houston.

At the conclusion of the spring semester, the work of each student will be evaluated by the graduate faculty. Students not progressing in a satisfactory manner may be counseled to take additional courses before proceeding to the next level. Students are also expected to meet all graduate scholastic regulations of the university.
