Individuals who develop these advanced skills can seek and fill hospitality management positions at both the corporate and operational levels.The master's degree program is a two-year program designed for both hotel and restaurant management graduates and those with baccalaureate degrees in related or other fields coupled with strong industry backgrounds. The M.H.M. challenges hotel and restaurant management graduates by providing continued educational specialization in hospitality management, while accommodating those candidates with industry experience and academic backgrounds in other areas who are seeking professional specialization. As a result, graduates of the Conrad N. Hilton College are serving in responsible positions worldwide with the finest firms in the hospitality industry as well as teaching in higher education. The Conrad N. Hilton College, one of 13 colleges comprising the University of Houston, has offered the masters of hospitality management degree since 1986. Most faculty members hold terminal degrees in their field and have been recognized for teaching excellence. In addition, faculty members have extensive industry experience, competence and expertise in the areas that are important to the hospitality industry. The Conrad N. Hilton College has initiated several innovative research programs demonstrating its determination to serve the hospitality industry, and society as a whole, in meaningful ways relevant to current developments. The Technology Research and Education Center, through its commitment to advanced technology research, partnerships with technology corporations. Its relationships with the academic community will provide the most current and comprehensive technology information services to benefit all stakeholders in the hospitality industry. The Loss Prevention Management Institute furnishes a forum for studying risk demands affecting the hospitality industry in the areas of insurance, safety, security, fire protection, and emergency planning. The Gaming Education and Research Institute provides public and private policymakers with current information to assist them in measuring the social, economic, and regulatory impacts of gaming activity, and serves as a source of continuing education and executive development programs. The college has the finest physical facilities in the world for the study of hotel and restaurant management. These facilities include an 86-room hotel property with 40,000 square feet of convention and meeting space, two full-service restaurants, state-of-the-art food production, service areas, a hospitality industry archive, and library; and the latest in technology contained in laboratories for management information systems, quantity food production and service, and food product development and testing. M.H.M. candidates complete the program by assimilating theoretical and practical academic experiences through the production of their professional paper.
