Core Course Waivers and Substitutions
Core curriculum hours may not be waived under any circumstances. However, should a student have sufficient professional certification, or educational background in hotel and restaurant management, core courses may be substituted with additional elective course work (up to six credit hours).
All core course substitutions must be approved by the academic advisor and the instructor assigned to the course in question. All course work substituted in this manner must be completed at the 6000 level or above.
Elective Course Work
Students must complete all prerequisite courses and at least one half of all core course work before enrolling in elective course work. All students are required to take 18 hours of elective course work. Students may take up to nine credit hours of elective course work outside the college of HRM. Course work taken in other colleges should be selected on the basis of appropriateness to the students' degree objectives. Course approval is given by the academic advisor for graduate studies.
The PlusOne Program
The Conrad N. Hilton College has implemented a PlusOne program for hospitality majors. This program waives up to 19 of the 55 hours required for the Master of Hospitality Management degree. This allows the student to earn the MHM degree program in only one year of full-time enrollment. This program is available to students with a bachelor's degree in hospitality management from the Conrad N. Hilton College and selected universities approved by the Conrad N. Hilton College.
The Dual Masters MHM/MBA Degrees
The Master of Hospitality Management (MHM) degree prepares students for the increasingly challenging world of the hospitality industry. Students may choose to specialize in lodging administration, food and beverage administration, or hospitality administration. Because the hospitality industry is growing and changing at an unprecedented rate, the college is constantly searching for additional ways to give its students new and better opportunities. The MHM/MBA joint program requires a minimum of 84 semester credit hours.
