Master of Arts Program

The department offers the Master of Arts degree under the 36-hour, nonthesis Plan II option.

Admission Requirements

In addition to meeting the college graduate admission requirements, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for unconditional admission to the Master of Arts in Economics program:

Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree in economics or an undergraduate degree that includes successful completion of the following courses: intermediate microeconomic theory, intermediate macroeconomic theory, mathematics (through calculus and matrix algebra), and elementary computer science. Deficiencies in any of these areas must be remedied at the beginning of the program by taking the needed courses from the following: ECON 6375, 6385, or equivalents; MATH 1431, 1432, 2433, and 2331; or MATH 1431 and ECON 4360.

A 3.00 grade point average (A=4.00) in the most recent 60 semester hours of undergraduate or graduate work is required. Applicants must present Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores and must submit three letters of recommendation. (Verbal, quantitative, and analytical GRE scores are examined separately and evaluated as one information source in the total application.)
