Libraries

The Weston A. Pettey Library with holdings of over eight thousand volumes; 10,000 slides; 300 videos; and numerous computer programs related to vision science and vision care, is the premier vision library in the city of Houston. The recently remodeled library has a large computer lab that provides word processing and other programs, Internet connections, and e-mail facilities for students. Each of the ten small study rooms has computer hook-ups. Additionally, there are two audio-visual rooms, a large conference room, and a reading room. The library staff is knowledgeable and willing to help with a student's Library needs.

Students may also use the materials and services of the M.D. Anderson Library or any of the other libraries on the University of Houston campus.

Optometric Services

Students and members of their immediate families may acquire full optometric services at the clinical center operated by the college. Professional services, but not ophthalmic materials, are provided without cost.

Health Insurance

The American Optometric Association provides medical insurance at low rates, or students may contract for health insurance at a special group rate. Information is available from the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions. For more information about a private policy endorsed by the university, call the University Health Center, 743-5151.
