College of Optometry The Clinics The University Eye Institute is the setting for the clinical patient care components of the curriculum. The College of Optometry will directly involve students in patient care in the clinical services throughout the four-year professional program, and the students' responsibility and specialization in patient care will increase as they progress in their education. During the fourth professional year, students will take part in on-campus patient care activities and didactic courses and will spend two semesters (32 weeks) in external health care facilities practicing primary eye and vision care. Equipped with the latest ophthalmic instruments, the clinical services provide students with learning opportunities in primary care, contact lens care, vision therapy, vision rehabilitation, pediatric optometry, geriatric optometry, ocular diagnosis, and electrodiagnosis. More than 30,000 patients visit the University Eye Institute each year.
