Facilities and Resources University Center and UC Satellite The focus for student activity on campus, the University Center (UC) offers many useful services and activities. Major commercial services are located in the University Center. They include three dining facilities: a full service dining room, the American Cafe; the Brooklyn Deli; and Coog's Cafe, UH's only sports bar. Other UC services include the University Bookstore; Cougar Byte, a computer store; Sterling Bank, a full service bank; the Art Stop, a frame shop and arts related sales; Etc., a convenience store; the Copy Center for duplicating needs; and Fantastic Sams, a hair salon. Other services in the UC include a recreation area, the Games Room, with billiards, table tennis, video games, bowling, and board game equipment; an Art Center specializing in ceramics, photography, jewelry making and woodworking; a US Post Office; ATM machines; Metro bus passes; film development; reservations; and a full service travel agency. The University Center is also the home to the Director of the University Center and Associated Facilities; a Notary Public; offices of Students' Association, Student Program Board, Council of Ethnic Organizations, registered student organizations; the Dean of Students office; Student Legal Services; Texas Rehabilitation Commission; and the Campus Activities staff. Meeting rooms for reading, studying, watching television, registered student organization meetings or simply talking with friends are also located in the UC. The University Center Satellite, located underground near the Science and Research Building and Agnes Arnold Hall, provides services to students on the northwest side of campus. The plaza and tree-lined area in front of the UC Satellite is a popular spot for relaxation and planned activities and programs. Satellite dining services include a quick order grill, several brand name franchises, a pasta bar with daily specials and a frozen yogurt dessert bar. There is a Games Room; the Leisure Resource Center; Veterans' Services Office; Learning Support Services; Etc. Etc., a convenience store; and television, reading and study lounges. The UC Satellite is available for rental on Saturday and Sunday by special arrangement with the UC Reservations Department.

Leisure Resource Center Blaffer Gallery, The Art Museum of the University of Houston The Sarah Campbell Blaffer Gallery in the Fine Arts Building at the University of Houston is one of the most influential state-supported university art galleries in the country. Through exhibitions, programs and publications, the Blaffer Gallery presents art that is intellectually stimulating and relevant to the university and community. The Gallery accomplishes this mission through a series of changing exhibitions that focus on the art of the past 100 years and the artistic, social, cultural and intellectual antecedents of this period. Major exhibitions are presented in September, November, January and June. Also, late spring shows feature the finest undergraduate and graduate art student work from the Department of Art. Blaffer Gallery offers students, faculty, and the public six exhibitions annually and other art-related events, including guided tours, performances, lectures, and symposia. Classes and student gatherings are welcome. Tours may be arranged by appointment, and the Gallery can be reserved for university-related receptions and events. Hours are 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; and 1:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday; the Gallery is closed on Monday. Cullen Performance Hall In addition to providing a professional environment in which undergraduate and graduate students of dance or music may learn the practice of their art, Cullen Performance Hall also serves as the venue for a vast array of cultural events, serving the campus, the neighborhood, and the community at large. The facility is an essential part of campus cultural life and hosts every type of performance imaginable, including theatre, dance, and musical presentations. For information call (713) 743-5186. Dudley Recital Hall Dudley Recital Hall is a 300-seat auditorium operated by the Moores School of Music, in which the school presents more than 100 recitals each year. These concerts feature faculty, student, and guest performers. For concert information, contact the Moores School of Music at (713) 743-3009. Moores School of Music Building The University of Houston's Moores School of Music is housed in a 140,000-square foot structure on the UH campus. The building, located off Cullen Boulevard, houses an 800-seat performance hall, a 7,100-square foot library, and a listening center. In addition to the full-stage performance hall, the facility has rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, and music classrooms for the school's more than 500 students, as well as faculty office studios and music administration offices. The state-of-the-art facility was named for philanthropists John and Rebecca Moores. Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre Two theatres are housed in the Wortham Theatre Building. The Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre is a proscenium theatre with plush seating for an audience of 566. It is the home of major productions by the School of Theatre and the University of Houston Children's Theatre Festival. The Lab Theatre is a teaching and performance facility for students taking classes in production or acting. Its flex-ible seating allows for intimate interaction between audience and actor. The Lab also houses the Edward Albee Playwrights Workshop every spring. KUHT/Houston Public Television was the nation's first educational station, signing on in 1953 to provide maverick educational programming for the University of Houston and Houston Independent School District. Channel 8 programming now reaches 2.4 million Gulf Coast viewers with lifelong learning opportunities and entertainment for all people from preschoolers to adults. KUHT also offers hands-on learning opportunities for students through internships and production courses offered through the university. The station is supported through the Association for Community Television (ACT), a volunteer organization responsible for fund-raising activities and special events. KUHF 88.7 FM, "Houston's Classic Choice" is located at the University of Houston in the School of Communica-tion building. KUHF, a classical music/news format, is affiliated with both National Public Radio and Public Radio International. KUHF is the radio voice of both the Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera. The 100,000 watt station serves the Houston area and the surrounding Gulf Coast region 24 hours a day. KUHF's staff consists of paid professional broadcasters, with a student intern program. KUHF's financial support comes from the Houston community through corporate underwriting partnerships, individual memberships, and special events. A grant is also received from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. KUHF consistently ranks in the top twenty of all Houston radio stations, according to Arbitron surveys. Hofheinz Pavilion Hofheinz Pavilion, one of the country's top collegiate basketball arenas, is the home of Cougar men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball. Named for UH alumnus and former Houston mayor Judge Roy Hofheinz, the air-conditioned building houses 10,060 comfortable theater-type seats. The Pavilion houses racquetball and handball courts, the athletic ticket office and basketball offices, and ROTC offices and classrooms. The facility is also used for concerts and UH and many area high school graduation exercises. Corbin J. Robertson Stadium Long-serving as one of the country's premier track and field stadiums, the 20,800-seat Corbin J. Robertson Stadium has recently been the home of several UH football games as well as Cougar track and field. Named for the former chairman of the UH Board of Regents and one of the founders of the UH athletic program, Robertson Stadium was the home of Cougar football until 1950. Selected games have returned to the facility every year since 1995. The stadium's track, meanwhile, was the home training ground of one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, a UH alumnus, and a host of Cougar Olympians did their daily training at Robertson Stadium for the better part of 17 years. The facility is also used for concerts and a variety of collegiate, high school and professional sporting events. The Athletics/Alumni Center and athletics complex was completed in May of 1995. The 220,000-square foot complex contains a multi-sport indoor practice facility, a 3,000-seat lighted baseball stadium, a 12-court tennis complex, an 18,000-square foot strength and conditioning center, an academic and student life service center, athletics offices, a sports medicine department, a video studio, an auditorium and a hall of fame and trophy room. The indoor practice facility is on the South side of the building and includes a 100-yard regulation football field with a retractable turf system. Underneath the turf is a six-lane track, four tennis courts, and three basketball and volleyball courts. The state-of-the-art building and complex was made possible by a $27 million contribution from UH alumni John and Rebecca Moores. This on-campus, 86-room hotel accommodates distinguished university guests, parents, alumni and corporate guests. Eric's restaurant offers a casual bistro atmosphere and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Eric's lounge features daily drink specials and is a popular university after hours "hangout". Barron's restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. This formal dining room is host to the renowned "Barron's International Dinner Series". The hotel provides over 30,000 square feet of diverse yet luxurious meeting space and is one of the largest urban conference centers in the city of Houston.
