6301: Teaching the Social Studies in the Elementary School Cr. 3. (3-0). Recent
literature, teaching methods, and trends in elementary school social studies.
6305: Teaching the Language Arts Cr. 3. (3-0). Spelling, handwriting, oral and
written expression, usage, and grammar.
6307: Methods of Teaching Art in the Elementary Schools Cr.3.(3-3).
Prerequisite: Admission to teacher education. For majors in art education.
Curriculum, planning and theory, methodology, for teaching art at the
elementary level.
6315: Literature for Children Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ELED 3320 or
equivalent or consent of instructor. Analysis of fiction and nonfiction,
approaches to criticism, and emphasis upon criteria for selection of books for
literary study.
6320: Foundations of Reading Instruction Cr. 3. (3-0). Current theories and
practices in reading instruction.
6324: Science Instruction in the Secondary School Cr. 3. (3-9). Field-based
course that introduces methods and materials for teaching in the middle and
senior high school science classroom and laboratory.
6325: Trends in Elementary School Science Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: consent
of instructor. New methods, programs, and materials in science education.
6335: Teaching Mathematics in the Elementary Grades Cr. 3. (3-0). Teaching
materials, evaluation techniques, and classroom management strategies for
arithmetic, grades one through six.
6338: Science for Young Children Cr.3.(3-0). Methods, materials, models, and
skills for integrating the curriculum through early childhood and primary-level
science themes.
6340: Mathematics for the Intermediate Grades Cr. 3. (3-0). Content,
instructional materials, teaching, and evaluation techniques for arithmetic,
grades four through six.
6350: Teaching Art in the Elementary School Cr. 3. (2-4). Prerequisite:
admission to teacher education or consent of instructor. Curriculum planning
and organization, instructional and managerial strategies for teaching art in
the elementary school. Supervised field experience.
6391:6392: Elementary School Internship Cr. 3. (3-9). Prerequisite: admission
to teacher education or consent of instructor. Supervised internship
experiences in elementary school teaching.
7315: Analysis of Methods of Teaching Reading Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ELED 6320
or equivalent or consent of instructor. Study of basal, language
experience, individualized, programmed, linguistic, phonic, spelling,
audiovisual, and kinesthetic approaches to the teaching of reading.
7325: Historical Development of Children's Literature Cr. 3. (3-0).
Prerequisite: ELED 6315, SEDE 6335, or consent of instructor. Influence of
social, political, and cultural developments upon literature for children.
Traditional literature; trends in illustration, content, and style; development
of reviewing of children's books.
