Concepts Cr. 3 per course. (3-0).
Concurrent enrollment required when courses are offered as a block. Principles
and theory of administration; governance and organization; basic activities of
educational management such as supervision, financial and business management,
and personnel relations.
6320: Instructional Supervision I Cr. 3.
(3-0). Prerequisites: ELCS 6301
and
ELCS 6302, or approval of chair. Principles, applications, and problems of
supervision and the leadership role.
6321: Instructional Supervision II Cr. 3.
(3-0). Prerequisite: ELCS 6320.
Development of leadership skills, current practices in educational measurement
and program evaluation, teacher-pupil interaction analysis, and group
leadership.
6392: Practicum in Educational
Administration Cr.3.(3-0). Role of administrator
in hypothetical school or university setting. Theories of administration
applied to practice in simulated problem-solving and decision-making
situations. Management competencies specifically addressed are leadership,
decision-making, problem analysis, and organizing and planning.
6397: Selected Topics in Administrative

coordinator and advisor. Supervised internship experiences in educational
leadership and cultural studies. Includes participation in seminars.

ELCS 6302, and a minimum of an additional four courses in administration and
administration supervision. Concurrent enrollment required when course offered
as a block. First course: organization and management of elementary and
secondary school unit; second course: practice in administrative tasks.
7330:7331: Administration of Higher Education I,
II Cr. 3 per semester. (3-0).
First semester: introduction to management of colleges and universities;
analysis of development of higher education, including history, finance,
personnel, and public policy. Second semester: applications of theory using
case study approach to examine college and university governance and
organizational behavior, curricular issues, academic personnel policies, and
external relations.

(3-0). Organizational models, management processes, and program resources.
Primarily concerned with higher education.
7340: Organization and Administration of the Curriculum Cr. 3.

Approaches to curriculum coordination from an administrative point of view.
Current organizational plans, instructional management, and forces that
influence curriculum decision making.
7343: Educational Finance Cr. 3. (3-0).
Economic relationships and problems in
local, state, and national financial support of education; federal
participation, state financial systems, local taxation, and indebtedness.
7346: Education Facilities and
Environment Cr.3.(3-0). Planning educational
facilities and learning environments; program analysis for facility planning;
administration of building projects; plant maintenance and operation.
7350: Personnel Management Cr. 3. (3-0).
Problems in personnel planning,
selection, classification, compensation, direction, appraisal, and human
relationships of educational employees of all categories.
7352: Behavioral Science for Educational
Administrators Cr. 3. (3-0). Current
and emerging theories in the behavioral sciences, emphasizing their
implications for policies and practices in school administration.
7353: Clinic in Administrative
Relationships Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite:
consent of instructor. Development of administrative competence through
laboratory experiences using the class to simulate an organization. Emphasis on
interpersonal and group relations, using instrumented and clinical procedures.
7354: Leadership for Change Cr. 3. (3-0).
Study of the role of educational
leadership in facilitating and enhancing the change process.
7360: Public Affairs and Community
Relations Cr. 3. (3-0). Purposes, functions,
and practices of information, communications, and public affairs programs
related to education. External and internal communication techniques are
emphasized.
7365: Administration in a Multicultural
Setting Cr. 3. (3-0). Implications of
concepts and theories of a multicultural society for practices and policy
development in educational administration.
7370: Educational Law Cr. 3. (3-0). Legal
principles involved in operating
educational systems; authority, responsibility, liability, and appeals; Texas
educational law and significant court holdings.
7371: Higher Education Law Cr. 3. (3-0).
Prerequisites: ELCS 7330 and

7331, or consent of instructor. Analysis of legal issues in postsecondary
education, including governance, faculty, students, and regulations by state
and federal governments.

in, administering collegiate or technical institutions. Emphasis on problem
identification and practical solution.

doctoral students. May be repeated for credit. Focuses on current issues and
topics in educational leadership and cultural studies.

Advanced seminar integrating the planning and institutional research functions

the research and literature of educational leadership including the use of
literature data bases of the field and their search via computer.
8361: Public, Community and Human

or equivalent. Current research in community, public and human relations
with emphasis on communication.

or equivalent. In-depth study, using current issues of school management
problems. Legislative recourses are considered.

Focus upon specialized areas of higher
education law, including interdisciplinary research in organizational theory
and law.
