College of Business Administration

Admission Requirements

The Master of Business Administration, the Master of Science in Accountancy, and the Master of Science in Administration degrees all have the same admission requirements.

The following materials must be submitted along with a completed graduate application to the University of Houston Office of Admissions, Houston, Texas, 77204-2161 telephone (713) 743-1010:

  1. Two official copies of transcripts from all graduate and undergraduate institutions (including community colleges) previously attended. These transcripts, indicating degrees awarded, if appropriate, should be received by the application deadline. Electronically-transmitted transcripts will facilitate the process, if that option is available from your institutions. If not, two copies from each institution must be sent to the Office of Admissions in an official sealed envelope. If final grades and degree status are not available by the admission deadline, another electronically-transmitted transcript or two official copies indicating degree received should be sent no later than the beginning of the semester in which you enroll in the program. The grade point average GPA for an admission decision will be calculated based on the student's last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate course work taken toward a degree or, in the case of graduate course work, 24 or more hours of graduate course work. The GPA for international students with a foreign degree is based on all undergraduate course work. Non-degree, postbaccalaureate course work will not be used in the GPA calculation.

  2. The College of Business Administration application fee. This fee should be included with the application for admission sent to the University of Houston Office of Admissions. For international students, there is an additional fee for the Office of International Admissions. Payment must be made via personal U.S. check or U.S. money order (payable to the University of Houston). The name and social security number of the applicant must be on the check or money order. NO CASH will be accepted! Payment should be attached to the application. Only applicants whose fees have been paid will be reviewed. Please check with the Office of Student Services, College of Business Administration, for the current fee amount.

  3. International applicants must also submit a score of at least 620 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), as well as a Letter of Financial Backing and a Statement of Understanding. The latter two forms are available from the International Section of the Office of Admissions. International applicants who speak English as their native language are exempt from the TOEFL requirement. Applicants who have earned a U.S. high school diploma or have completed a prior college degree in the U.S. are also exempt from the TOEFL requirement. TOEFL scores submitted must not be more than two years old.

  4. Resumé or curriculum vitae. A personal resumé or curriculum vitae is required and should accompany the application and fee when they are submitted to the Office of Admissions. It is preferred that students have at least two years of full-time relevant professional work experience before applying to the Master's program, especially if their undergraduate degree is in business.

  5. Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score. An official GMAT score should be on record with the University of Houston. Scores are sent automatically by the Educational Testing Service to the University of Houston about a month after the test date, if requested by the student at the time of the test. If you did not request that your score be sent to the University of Houston, call Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ [(609)771-7590] and request that an official score report be sent to the University of Houston by the application deadline. Our school code is 6870. The GMAT should be taken no later than the March test date prior to fall enrollment and June prior to spring enrollment. GMAT scores may not be more than five years old at the time of application.

Students must comply with all college and university requirements, including application deadlines. New students are admitted to graduate business programs for the fall and spring semesters only.

The College of Business Administration does not grant conditional admission, nor does it have a non-degree seeking status at the graduate level. For specific information about admission requirements and application deadlines, please contact the Office of Student Services.
