Philanthropy Awareness Day

Philanthropy Awareness Day (PhAD) is a time in the school year that we set aside to thank alumni and friends of UH for their philanthropic efforts and investments.  It's a day set aside to say, "Thanks!"

In 2012, the funds from the State of Texas made up 22% of the UH budget, while student tuition & fees covered another 42% of the total cost for a Houston Cougar experience.   This means that by the end of February, private grants and contributions fund the remaining 36% to finish out the year!

So come out and show your gratitude to the generous individuals who help us finish out the school year through their charitable gifts to UH and UH students!  Many alumni give loyal, annual support and others give considerable, transformational gifts.  Either way, every gift makes a difference for UH students and programs.

These individuals are rooting for your success! Day after day, donations are a vital part of a Cougar's education.  Beyond direct scholarship support, all students benefit from individual giving in the classroom, in the lab, in the library, and on the field.  Just look for the red bows throughout campus.  They represent just some of the items and areas that are available to you because of private support.

Say "Thanks!" and enjoy a special treat during the 3rd Annual Philanthropy Awareness Day (PhAD):

Did you know?

•    Did you know alumni participation in giving is considered in university rankings, like those they publish in U.S. News and World Report?  For alumni, just choosing to give is important.
•    Alumni giving is a proud tradition at Tier One schools across the country, with other nationally competitive schools enjoying around 15%-18% of their alumni making an annual gift.
•    Graduating seniors start this tradition during their last semester.  Soon-to-be alumni make their first donation through the Cougar Graduation Challenge.  For their generosity, they receive a Cougar Spirit Cord to wear at graduation.
•    Alumni who give back every year earn special recognition through the HOUSTON Pacesetters or Rising Stars.
