Red Elementary Outdoor Science Classroom
Located on the northwest field of Red Elementary in Willow Bend, the 1,100-square-foot outdoor classroom was built for science classes, physical education classes, and various after school programs. The design consists of four steel trusses supporting a double-cantilever butterfly roof. The roof was designed to usher in available breezes and shield from the intense sun, while simultaneously collecting and draining water into a pool containing a mosquito-eating variety of goldfish. The construction includes a four-foot high, curved concrete wall and cantilevered desk.
