The Fulbright Program provides grant award opportunities for upperclassmen, graduate students, and alumni in the following categories:

Study/Research Awards

Research/Study grant awards are available in approximately 140 countries. Applicants for these grant awards design their own projects and will typically work with advisers at foreign universities or other cultural or educational institutions. Also within this category are field-specific and graduate study grant award opportunities. Program requirements vary by country, so the applicant’s first step is to become familiar with the country program summary for the host country.

Creative and Performing Arts Awards

Projects in the Creative and Performing Arts are a subset of study/research grant awards. The primary purpose of this grant award is to refine or advance an art form and/or create artistic work. The Creative and Performing Arts application requires the submission of supplementary materials, which are delineated by artistic field.

English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) Awards

The English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) program places Fulbrighters in a classroom abroad to provide assistance to teachers of English to non-native English-speakers. English Teaching Assistants help teach English language while serving as a cultural ambassador for the U.S. The age and academic level of classroom students varies by country, ranging from kindergarten to the university level. Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship

Recipients of the Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship have access to a unique platform to develop global narratives and discuss the commonalities of pre-determined issues or themes across borders. Trained, supported, and mentored by National Geographic Editors during their grants in one or multiple countries, Fulbright-National Geographic Fellows use media platforms to build ties across cultures while enhancing mutual understanding.

Critical Language Enhancement Award

The Critical Language Enhancement Grant Award provides additional language training to Fulbright U.S. Student Program recipients. Grantees receive between three and six months of intensive language study in addition to a study/research grant. This opportunity is available for select languages and in limited host countries.
