Steps for Submitting a Fulbright Application

STEP 1: Identify and Discuss!
  • Schedule an advising session with UH Fulbright Program Advisor, Dr. Jennifer Asmussen to determine which Fulbright award and country is right for you!
  • Create an Embark account on the U.S. Fulbright webpage. 
  • Develop a first draft of your Statement of Grant Purpose and your Personal Statement to discuss with a UH Fulbright Program Advisor.
  • Identify (and create) supplemental materials (if necessary).
  • Identify an affiliation/host country advisor in order to secure an Affiliation Letter.
  • Identify three (3) individuals to write your Letters of Recommendation.
  • Request and submit official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.

STEP 2:  Obtain and Revise!

  • Revise Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement according to your UH Fulbright faculty advisor's feedback.
  • Continue to work on and create supplemental materials (if necessary).
  • Obtain your Affiliation Letter.
  • Obtain your three (3) Letters of Recommendation.
  • Obtain your Foreign Language Evaluation (if necessary).

STEP 3:  Finalize and Submit!

  • Prepare final draft of Statement of Grant Purpose, Personal Essay, and supplemental materials (if necessary).  Work with Faculty and Staff from the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) to refine your documents and materials.
  • Ensure that other required materials (excluding Statement of Grant Purpose, Personal Essay, and supplemental materials) have been submitted or determine when they will be submitted.
  • Submit application and supplemental materials through Embark by the UH campus deadline: Friday, September 2, 2016.
  • Register for Campus Interviews: September 19-21, 2016.
  • FINAL REVISION AND SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION:
    • Make final revisions to application based on Campus Interview feedback.
    • Final Submission - Friday, October 7, 2016.
