FACULTY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE:  GOALS and DIRECTIONS for 2009


1.  Review and make recommendations with regard to faculty benefits.  Based of Faculty senate survey some examples might include: 1) making retirement planning more understandable.  2) encouraging HR to be more user friendly.  3) ensuring retirees retain certain privileges.  4) 90 day medical waiting period for new faculty.

2.  Review and make recommendations for improvements in Office of Grants and Contracts. Based of Faculty Senate survey some examples might include: 1) Making OGS more user friendly.  2) Improving the human subjects committee.  3) Have OGC provide more services for PIs writing grants, 4) Human Subjects.

3.  Develop a structure to encourage Faculty Senators from each college to provide monthly or bimonthly reports to faculty in their college.  Some colleges report back to their constituents but other do not.  Perhaps develop a report framework that can be used by senators maybe have meetings with the Senators from each college to exchange ideas and encourage communication.

4.  Monitor joint GPS/FS task force on Graduate faculty/Titles-Ranks.  Get input from FAC on issues pertinent to this task force and keep FAC informed on task force’s progress.

5. Monitor Faculty Development and Retention policies as they arise and make recommendations.  Possible issues might include: 1) making recommendations for changes in Faculty travel awards.  2) making recommendations for changes in developmental leave policy.  3) develop policies to encourage more minorities/women to take leadership roles at the University.

 6. Minimum Standards for Computer upgrades across the campus.

7.  Be responsible for surveying the Faculty as needed (e.g.) Child Care survey.
