EDUCATIONAL POLICIES & STUDENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE:  GOALS and DIRECTIONS for 2009


1.  Develop proposal for a Center for Teaching Excellence.  The committee will be working with the Strategic Action Group (SAG) sub-committee for Student Success to develop a 3-5 page proposal for a faculty-driven center for Teaching Excellence.  This sub-committee will be looking at existing models at other institutions, best practices, on-campus needs, etc. while putting together a proposal during Spring 2009.   (Rea, Johnson, Bennett)

2.  Develop recommendations to improve the Financial Aid office/process. The sub-committee will gather information and invite administrators, staff and students to meet with it this term.  This sub-committee will make specific recommendations for improvements by the end of Spring 2009.   (Hernandez, Carrasquillo, Phillips)

3.  Monitor the Voluntary System of Accountability (VSA) assessment.  The committee will keep the faculty updated on the implementation of the VSA instrument.  (Mazella)

4.  Monitor Discovery Research/QEP program.  Work with Veronique Tran, Director of QEP Undergraduate Research, to provide regular reports regarding the progress of the Discovery-Based Research program.  (Rea)

5. Monitor the Orientation Task Force (Howard), Monitor Enrollment Management Task Force, and the Achieving the Dream program.  Get regular reports from Agnes DeFranco, Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, and others regarding programs affecting student success.

 6. Liaison with Undergraduate Council (UC).  A member of EPSAC will attend UC meetings and report to  the committee on pertinent information.  (Bennett, Mazella)
