BUDGET & FACILITIES COMMITTEE:  GOALS AND DIRECTIONS FOR 2009

1.  Continue salary data report analysis.  Follow up to last year's report looking at salary compression issues.  Continued analysis and submit report on findings.

To properly address this charge the Committee asks that the following recommendation of the October, 2007 BFC Salary Analsys Report be implemented by the University administration:

For the efficient operation of the entire University, reliable data on faculty salaries should be continuously maintained by the central administration.

Specifically, we ask that the following data be provided for each tenured or tenure-track faculty member for the 2008-2009 academic year:

a.  9-month 1.0 FTE faculty salary equivalent
b.  rank
c.  date of rank
d.  date of appointment to the University of Houston
e.  gender
f.  departmental assignment

We believe the most efficient means of making these data available for analysis is to populat necessary fields in the PeopleSoft database system.  It is our understanding that this is currently not the case.

2.  Monitor UH budgeting process. Staff budget hearing, insure some level of openness, and report on relevant issues and concerns.

These are being staffed at present, although numerous schedule changes continue to occur.

3.  Monitor Parking rate increases.
Maintain contact with and get reports from Parking fee committee.  Provide feedback to committee and FEC.

4. Monitor Task Force on Child Care Center expansion.
Provide input to FS representatives on task force that will help decide where and how big the new facilities will be.

Senator Ali Kamrani of the BFC has a special interest in this area and he is being asked to be the liaison between BFC and matters pertaining to childcare on the campus.

5.  Monitor and make recommendations on new and ongoing construction.
Make regular reports and updates on ongoing projects.

Standing membership of the BFC chair on the University Facilities Committee will facilitate this goal.

6. Monitor construction project signage.
Make regular reports and updates on ongoing projects.

Standing membership of the BFC chair on the University Facilities Committee will facilitate this goal.
