The Graduation Pledge
The Graduation Pledge is designed to encourage first-time-in-college (FTIC) students to reach their graduation goals in four years. UH's Graduation Pledge Waiver will reward students for maintaining continued enrollment while remaining in good academic standing.
Earn up to $3,000 in waivers! Entering freshmen who are full-time first-time-in-college (FTIC) students who complete 30 hours towards their major at UH in good standing within one academic year will be eligible for $500 toward their next year's tuition and fees. Students who maintain eligibility in the Graduation Pledge program will also be awarded priority registration. By completing 60 hours at UH after two years, students will then be eligible for $1000 toward their next year's tuition and fees. Those who finish 90 hours at UH by the end of their third year will be eligible for $1500 toward their fourth year tuition and fees.
All credits completed toward the total hours counted must be taken at the University of Houston, with the exception of Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (dual-credit), International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, SAT II and CLEP credits which can be counted in with the total hours counted if the credit applies to the degree plan of the declared major. These aforementioned “exception credits” are not to exceed 30 hours and are only accepted if completed and reported prior to initial enrollment at the University. Students must complete steps to have the “exception credit” posted prior to the end of the first term of enrollment. In order to get the credit posted students must complete the Test Course Credit Request form available at the University Testing Services, Room 204 Student Service Center 1.
Courses taken in summer sessions at UH count towards the goal. Transfer credit, other than identified exception credit, will not count toward the Graduation Pledge hours. There may be degree requirements in your academic major that may impact your ability to maintain eligibility in the Graduation Pledge. Students who fail to successfully meet eligibility requirements in any academic year lose eligibility to participate thereafter. Please note that financial aid may be revised due to this waiver.
Fully funded scholarship students who have scholarships that cover full tuition and fees (e.g. Hazlewood, Tier One, or others) will not be able to benefit from this program because their awards will cover all tuition and fees. They are still encouraged to take the pledge and maintain eligibility in the Graduation Pledge program in case their academic circumstances change their program eligibility status in future terms.
Joint degree candidates (e.g. nursing degree candidates) will be eligible for the Graduation Pledge at UH until they transition. Once they enroll at another institution, their enrollment is no longer at UH and a waiver at UH cannot be applied to another institution.
To participate in this program freshmen students who are full-time first-time-in-college (FTIC) must:
- Take the Graduation Pledge by May 10, 2013
