What is Frontier Fiesta?
Frontier Fiesta is a diverse showcase for the talents of the University of Houston student body. Each year a piece of our campus is transformed into a fully functional town called Fiesta City. This student led festival is a part of a long-standing tradition at UH dating back to the 1940's.
Education and Scholarship
Every year the Frontier Fiesta Association gives ten scholarships to deserving incoming freshman and current UH students. These scholarships not only reward academic achievement, but also recognize outstanding efforts in community service. Applicants are chosen through a committee of University Faculty and Staff. Over the last twelve years Frontier Fiesta has awarded over $58,000 in scholarships. Last year alone Frontier Fiesta granted $10,000 to UH students! Read more ...
Broadway-Style Variety Shows
Traditionally, one of the highlights of Frontier Fiesta are the variety shows that are hosted by different student organizations at UH. Some shows have rich history, which date back to the original days of Frontier Fiesta. These shows, which organizations prepare all semester long, vary in content from comedies to entertaining dance productions.
Carnival Booths
Throughout Fiesta City you can come and enjoy carnival booths that are set up by student organizations on campus. Organizations use these booths as fundraisers for their events at UH. In the past years booths have included: face painting, laser tag, sumo wrestling, wax hands, bouncy boxing, temporary tattoos, old time photos, and obstacle courses.
BBQ Cook-Off
This year's event will also include our famous BBQ cook-off competition. Teams will compete in eight food categories: chili, beans, fajitas, ribs, chicken, gumbo, brisket, and dessert. Concerts
Frontier Fiesta offers free big name nightly concerts to all those attending. Fiesta's concerts typically draw the biggest crowds of the day.
