All That Jazz
The Moores School of Music is hosting the 11th Annual Moores Jazz Festival on February 20 –21 in the Moores Opera House at the University of Houston.
The Texas Music Festival Jazz Project (featuring Texas-based jazz musicians), directed by Noe Marmolejo, will perform on Friday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m., noted saxophonist Bill Evans will be joined by Marmolejo and the Moores School of Music Jazz Orchestra.
Education is a big part of the annual Moores School of Music Jazz Festival. Middle- and high-school jazz ensembles will have the opportunity to perform in the Moores Opera House for a panel of distinguished jazz artists. Although this festival is not competitive, it includes a trophy system that will single out top performances by individuals and groups. Students can also participate in a music clinic with guest artist Evans.
Tickets for the evening performances are $10 for general admission and $5 for students/seniors. They may be purchased in advance or at the door the day of the performance. Reserve your tickets online or by calling the Moores School Ticket Office at 713-743-3313. The Moores Opera House is located on the UH Main Campus at Entrance #16 off Cullen Boulevard.
