FAQs Q: Able to print some reports but not others. A: This is likely a PS account permission problem. The user should check with his/her manager that his/her PS account has permission to print the reports.
Q: I can't print to my local printer. A: Print a test page http://www.uh.edu/fast/FAST-printest.htm. If you're unable to print locally, your printing problem is related to your PC setup and you should contact your departmental technical contact or your campus help desk.
A: Ask a colleague who has no problem printing from PS to log on from your PC and try printing. If your colleague is able to print on your machine, your printing problem is likely related to configuration or permission settings in your PS account. Please contact your campus help desk. Be sure to describe the problem as account configuration/permission issue.
A: For information on printing, please see http://www.uh.edu/fast/print.htm.
Q: How do I clear my cache? A: Instructions for clearing the cache can be found at Deleting Cache Files.
Q: How do my users get an operator ID and Password? A:

Q: What are the registry keys that change to direct the client to different databases. A:
Keys relevant to PeopleSoft client is under: “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PeopleSoft”. However, third party applications such as Crystal report,
Oracle client, and Folio viewer have their own set of registry keys.
Q: What registry keys are manipulated during the installation process. A: The following keys need to be assessable to peoplesoft and the user need to be in the administrator group to change the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE keys.
Q:
Why is it so slow to load? A:
Approximately 10MB of network traffic is generated starting from
clicking on the launcher icon until seeing first panel in PeopleSoft.
Hence, the initial application load performance will greatly
depend on network traffic utilization and file server load.
We are looking into several solutions to possibly minimize the
network traffic load.
Q:
How much data is being
transferred every time you connect? A: Approximately 10MB of network traffic is generated starting from clicking on the launcher icon until seeing first panel in PeopleSoft.
Q:
People in my department often work from home.
What are the plans for off campus connectivity? A: There is no remote connectivity planned at this time. However, possible solutions are being explored to accommodate these users. Q:
What's going on in in the background during the Workstation Setup? A:
Two programs are executed
after user clicked OK on the Launcher.
First program is PeopleSoft Configuration Manager, and command
issued are: “z:\saprod\bin\CLIENT\WINX86\pscfg.exe
-import:z:\install\Zdrive\PSconfig\" & strLocation &
"\" & strPSDB” This imports the appropriate configuration files for user selected database and launching location. After configuration process is done, a second command will launch the pstools.exe, which is the client piece of PeopleSoft. Q:
How can you make a pre-existing version of Oracle work? A: Due to product support agreement, we will use only certified version of Oracle client with PeopleSoft. We have found Advanced to be working with Oracle client installed with PeopleSoft. If you know of other Oracle application in your area, please contact Jonathan Chern at 713-743-1072, and he will work with you to assess possible Oracle issues. Q:
Is an Oracle nameserver
needed? A: No. We currently use tnsnames.ora for database name resolution.
Q:
If I have a later version of Crystal Reports on my machine will it work
with PeopleSoft? A: Depends, it is likely to work, but tweaking is probably required. PeopleSoft will continue to certify platforms and third party tools such as Crystal, SQR, MS Office and Windows when newer version arrives, however, they are usually at least six months behind in product certification cycle. Q:
I have an ip printer with no printer name and no server.
How can I continue to use that printer? A:
A print server and print
queue is required for network printing.
There is a print server, SPOOLER,
setup at central campus available for campus usage.
If you don’t have printer server of your own, please contact
Tom Monroe to add print queues for you on SPOOLER
