The AIA Houston Design Awards program recognizes design excellence in architecture, residential architecture, interior architecture, restoration/renovation and urban design.
The University of Houston System is pleased to be the recipient of two awards for recent construction projects in two different categories:
The Blaffer Art Museum (WORK Architecture Company) — Winner, Renovation/Restoration Category
The Blaffer Gallery Renovation located at the Fine Arts Building (Building #589) at the University of Houston Main Campus is an architecturally significant renovation. The external renovation portion incorporated improved accessibility, new signage and a renovation of the building courtyard. The interiors of the gallery were also renovated to improve accessibility and safety, incorporating the addition of a coffee bar/catering kitchen.
UH Clear Lake Arbor Building (SHW Group LLP) — Winner, Architecture Greater than 50,000 SF Category
The University of Houston-Clear Lake required additional space for the Fine Arts and Education programs currently located on campus in the Arbor Building. The additions totaled approximately 32,000 square feet. The project incorporated Pre-Engineered Metal Building Systems, located in two structures—one each at the North and South end of the Arbor Building.
