Electrical System Disruptions Planned During Winter Break

In order to provide consistent and reliable electrical service on campus and to avoid future failures of the campus electrical system, pre-investigative and repair maintenance efforts are needed.

Please be advised that the University’s plan to perform a complete campus electrical shut-down has been canceled during the winter break 2014 until further notice.

As a result, brief electrical disruptions will take place over the winter break. These are scheduled to occur between Dec. 26 and Dec. 30. For a list of buildings impacted by the electrical disruptions, or power blips, click here.

Building backup generators will be online during the electrical blips, which will occur as systems are transferred to generator power.  Once the work is completed, blips will occur as the campus electrical feeders are realigned and balanced.  Impacts will be to intermediate distribution frame (IDF) equipment, computers, lab research equipment and any instrument that is not on an uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

Please make all necessary arrangements to protect equipment during these power disruptions.

The intent is not to disrupt research or teaching efforts. However, if any department determines that the scheduled power blips will be problematic and unacceptable, they should reach out so that efforts can be made to accommodate their needs.

Principal Project Manager Shannon Jones is leading the electrical outage and can be contacted at 713-743-4469 or sejones3@Central.UH.EDU. If additional support is required as far as any experiments or ongoing research, contact Facilities Management Executive Director Herman Taitt at 713-743-6563 or taitt@uh.edu.
