Consultant Team Search Underway for New Health and Biomedical Sciences Center 2 Building

The search is underway for a consultant team to design the University of Houston’s planned Health and Biomedical Sciences Center 2 building.

Architecture firms from around the country have already submitted responses to UH’s Request For Qualifications. The responses will be evaluated by a committee comprising UH facilities personnel as well as representatives from the departments that will occupy the building.

After reviewing the initial submissions, the committee will narrow down the search to a short list of candidates, each of whom will then be interviewed. The final selection is expected to be made in early February.

The Health and Biomedical Sciences Center 2 building will be six to eight stories tall with approximately 200,000 gross square feet. It will be located adjacent to the existing Health and Biomedical Sciences Center. The project is anticipated to be phased, with some floors initially constructed as “shell” space. Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2015, with a final completion in late 2016.
