The Science Teaching Laboratory building has been named the 2013 Outstanding Project in the new construction/addition of a college/university science center category by Learning by Design, a prestigious magazine that publishes outstanding pre-K to 12 and college/university projects.

The four-story, 105,686-square-foot facility provides undergraduate biology and chemistry teaching labs for 659 students on levels one through three and graduate and postgraduate labs on level four in addition to shell space for future research use. Lobbies are located throughout the building to encourage collaboration and interaction.

The Facilities Planning and Construction team on the project was Senior Project Manager Kelly Buehler, Principal Project Manager John Posch and Senior Facilities Project Inspector Larkin Buechmann. The design team included David Andrews, AIA, principal-in-charge; Michael Helman, project architect; Sheree Ockman, interior designer; Hoar Construction, design and build contractor; Haynes Whaley Associates, structural engineering; and Shah Smith and Associates, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
