Football Stadium Construction Impacting Mobility around Site

Construction is progressing on the University of Houston’s new football stadium. This work, as well as the ongoing METRO light rail construction along Wheeler and Scott, will have an impact on vehicle and pedestrian mobility in that area of campus.

The following is a summary of the impacts:

Stadium ProgressWORKING HOURS: Construction crews of up to 500 workers daily are working Monday through Friday (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Saturday (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and most Sundays (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Special work hours will be utilized for concrete pours, starting at 3 a.m.

PARKING LOTS: Lots 11A, 12B and 15D will be completely closed. Additionally, sections of lots 12A, and 15F will be closed. Please see the diagram below for reference.

SIDEWALKS: Sections of the sidewalks along Wheeler and Scott have been removed due to the METRO construction. All sidewalks along Holman, Cougar Place Drive and Cullen will remain open.

METRO CONSTRUCTION has reduced Scott Street to one-lane of traffic between Elgin and Wheeler. Stadium construction traffic will be entering the site from Scott Street onto Holman, and the steady stream of dump trucks, concrete trucks, and long flatbed trailers will make this area very congested. Students, staff and faculty utilizing Scott Street should expect to encounter METRO construction flagmen and should pay close attention to construction equipment and trucks making wide turns onto Holman Street and entering or exiting the site.

THE STADIUM PARKING GARAGE will remain fully open and accessible. Given the congestion at the Scott/Holman entrance, drivers are advised to avoid the Scott Street/Holman intersection and enter the garage via Cullen to Holman.

Construction cameras can be accessed through the FP&C Construction Webcast site at www.uh.edu/plantops/resources/construction-webcast/index.php.
