Description

Cougar Place Apartments will be demolished to make room for Cougar Place Replacement /Sophomore Housing Project (CPR). Cougar Place Apartments occupies 7.19 acres of the campus with 10 apartment buildings and two support buildings. Demolition of the existing buildings will occur before construction can occur. Two large ceramic tile murals by well-known artist, Malou Flato are to be relocated as part of this project.

Site is located south of Robertson Stadium and Cougar Place Drive and west of Cullen Street.The new facility will have 800 student beds and it will be designed to house sophomore and other upper-class level students. Unit configurations will consist of four private bedrooms with two shared bathrooms and a small common living area. Units will not have a kitchen. Parking for the residents will be provided by UH on a separate site. Most of the ground floor will consist of common living and learning spaces intended to provide student gathering space and academic support for an enhanced sophomore experience.

The building will be approximately 316,000 GSF and four stories. The facility will be designed using green/sustainable principles. The estimated DBBL (project cost) is $48,500,000 and it is scheduled to be substantially complete by June 1st, 2013.
