Description

UHD desires to construct 2 new intermediate parking levels (approximately 60,000 GSF) to the existing Academic Building Visitor Parking with an internal entry/exit ramp. The new ramp will be utilized until the adjacent existing garage is reconstructed in the future, at which time access can be through the ramps for that facility. The existing parking level was constructed in 1996 to allow for the addition of an intermediate parking level. The facility currently has ground level parking with occupied space approximately 30 feet above. The original design placed weld plates at mid-height of the columns to facilitate an additional level.

The construction of the internal entry exit ramp is proposed to be steel framed with decking and lightweight concrete fill on steel columns supported by shallow spread footing. Demolition of isolated existing paving is necessary. The intermediate parking levels construction is proposed to be steel framing with deck and lightweight concrete fill. A cable guard rail system is proposed for the perimeter of the new deck with a possible lightweight concrete fascia for the Travis Street side (west elevation). Also included in this project will be civil/site work including circulation patterns, sidewalks, paving, grading, drainage and site utilities, layout extension of a dry pipe fire suppression system, floor drains and associated piping to existing sanitary sewer, lighting (replacing existing also), automated entry gate, structural steel coating, striping, and code review/analysis.
