was preceded in his role by Immediate Past Chair Cheryl Creuzot (’81, J.D. ’92,

ZONE FACILITY GETS APPROVAL The Board of Regents
has approved the Facility and Construction Committee's motion
to move ahead on the End Zone Facility initiative. UH has been
preparing for this moment for at least the last three years.
For the athletic program this is a very big project -- much larger
than any in the past.

NAMES KEENUM HIS OPENING DAY STARTER University
of Houston head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced that sophomore
Case Keenum will be the Cougars' opening-day starter at quarterback
against Southern University on Aug. 30. Keenum had been in an
ongoing battle with junior Blake Joseph to see who would be named
the No. 1 quarterback. more

University of Houston physicist will join the ranks of a number
of Nobel laureates this fall when he receives the Townsend Harris
Medal, the highest honor awarded alumni of his alma mater, City
College of New York. Arthur B. Weglein, Hugh
Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Physics,
is one of eight 2008 recipients of the medal given by the CCNY
Alumni Association. more
