Instructor-led Training

Please do not register for a class on the same day that it is being taught. If a class is full, the registration button will be disabled and you will have to sign up for a future training.

EH04: Hazard Communication

This course covers theTexas Hazard Communication Act, record keeping requirements, education about chemical hazards and training to be provided, and how to obtain Material Safety Data Sheets.

EH06: General Laboratory Safety and Hazardous Materials Orientation

Class includes toxicology, recognition of hazards, personal protective equipment, understanding MSDS's, proper storage of chemicals, proper disposal of chemicals, fire safety and general safety rules

This class is mandatory for all new faculty working in a science/research laboratory, new laboratory teaching assistants and other new laboratory staff. Any other interested persons are cordially invited to attend.

EH12: Biological Safety

Course content includes safety guidelines and procedures for working with biohazardous materials, recombinant DNA molecules at Biosafety Levels 1 and 2 and Bloodborne Pathogens training. Content will also include UH policies, responsibilities and requirements for research involving the use of biological materials.

EH21: Radioactive Material Safety

The course covers basic radiation physics principles, lab safety procedures, emergency spill procedures, radiation terminology, lab inspections, regulations, documentation and record keeping, isotope information, dosimetry, radioactive waste disposal, survey meters, basic radiation biology, and orientation to University procedures.

EH22: X-Ray Safety

This course is for users of x-ray equipment and covers basic x-ray physics principles, safety procedures, x-ray terminology, equipment safety devices, regulations, documentation and record keeping, lab inspections, dosimetry, survey meters, basic radiation biology, emergency exposure procedures, and orientation to University procedures.

EH23: Laser Safety

This course for users of laser equipment covers basic laser principles, safety procedures, laser terminology, equipment safety devices, regulations, lab inspections, documentation and record keeping, basic laser radiation biology, emergency burn procedures, eye protection, and University procedures.

EH01: Respiratory Protection

This is a 1/2 hour course covering the safe use of air purifying respirators. Topics include, hazard types, proper fitting techniques, care, and storage of air purifying respirators. Classes offered as needed.

EH24: Radiation Safety Lecture

2-4 hours general radiation safety lecture that covers basic radiation physics principles, safety procedures, radiation terminology, regulations, documentation and record keeping, basic radiation biology, orientation to University procedures, and other topics upon request.

EH25: Asbestos Disturbance Prevention Training

This is a 1.5 hour instructor-led course. All new employees who may come into contact with Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) during the uction of their duties must be trained about ACM. These employees include Custodial, Building Maintenance, Utilities, IT/Telecom technicians, and Project managers involved in renovation or demolition projects.

EH26: Hydrofluoric Acid Safety Lecture

This course covers properties of HF, associated hazards, special precautions for handling and storage, proper PPE, emergency response to spills and accidents, and the University's HF program. This training is mandatory for all research personnel/students working with or in the vicinity of hydrofluoric acid and must be taken prior to work commencing with this material.
