Seed research funding opportunities afford faculty funding to develop, expand, or shift research foci through implementing pilot studies, data collection opportunities, and secondary data analyses. The College of Education and UH’s Division of Research both offer competitive opportunities for faculty to seek seed research support.

College of Education
The College of Education’s Office of Research would like to announce the following internal grants for COE faculty to apply and/or be nominated. The deadline for submission of the application materials is the first Friday of May of each year (by 5:00 pm CST). Electronic application guidelines and forms can be downloaded by clicking on the name of the award or internal grant mechanism. Please consider applying or nominating a COE faculty member (or research graduate student where applicable) for these awards.
All application materials must be submitted in electronic version (including signed letters converted to PDF-files): Faculty submit their applications via the COE Faculty Intranet website. Students submit their applications via a separate Student Research Awards website. It is planned for both websites to open up for uploading application materials on February 1 of each year. Please consult your departmental representative on the COE research committee if you have questions about these internal grants.

COE Faculty Research Stimulus Grant Award (FRSGA): The Faculty Research Stimulus Grant Award (FRSGA) provides up to two $10,000 (depending on budget approval) of seed money to College of Education faculty to conduct research with the objective of submitting a grant proposal to an external funding agency. The recipient of this award is expected to submit a proposal for an externally funded research grant within six-months of project completion.
COE Service to Research Bridge Grant Award (S2RBGA): The Service to Research Bridge Grant Award (S2RBGA) will provide one $5,000 (depending on budget approval) award to College of Education faculty to augment an existing externally funded service or training project affording the addition of innovative and impactful research with the objective of submitting a competitive grant proposal to an external funding agency. The recipient of this award is expected to submit a proposal for an externally funded research grant within six-months of project completion.
COE Federal Program Officer Travel Support: The Travel Support will provide up to five $1,000 in travel support to meet with a federal program officer regarding potential funding for a research grant. Evidence of ongoing communication with the FPO will be necessary in determining the need and viability of this meeting and subsequent award. COE External Proposal Review Support: This award provides stipends to remunerate highly qualified external reviewers to provide external reviews for federal grants. Please contact the Associate Dean for Research regarding this award.
