CUIN Alum Elected Regional Director of the National Council of the Supervisors of Mathematics

Paul GrayAlumnus Paul Gray who received his Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Teaching and Teacher Education program area) was recently elected Regional Director of the National Council of the Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) for Southern Region 2.  Paul's three year term begins at the conclusion of the April 2016 NCSM Annual Conference in Oakland, CA. He is a former high school mathematics teacher at Eisenhower High School in the Aldine Independent School District.

Gray is currently a mathematics consultant who manages the development of digitally-delivered mathematics instruction resources and supplemental curriculum, provides mentoring and coaching support for classroom teachers, and facilitates the development and delivery of professional development workshops and institutes for K-12 mathematics teachers.

In his election statement to members Gray wrote: “Our professional organizations have never been a more important piece of our professional learning and support. Whether through conferences and face-to-face or electronic interactions, or through resources that we use in our daily practice, professional organizations such as NCSM open the doors to making a difference in the lives of the teachers we support, and the students who depend on them.”

“What a delight it has been to follow Paul Gray’s career trajectory from a beginning to an experienced mathematics teacher and then from a state mathematics position to private consulting with important regional-level leadership responsibilities,” noted Cheryl Craig professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and Gray’s doctoral advisor.

As a Regional Director, Gray will represent Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas for the Council. He will attend and provide assistance during NCSM events, support local affiliates and conferences, and offer local assistance, support, and publicity within the Southern Region 2.
