HDFS Alumna Natalie Zuniga Serves the Hispanic Community

Natalie ZunigaTune into Houston radio station 920 AM on Monday mornings, and you may hear Natalie Zuniga dishing out advice on leadership, emotional health and teambuilding at work.

Zuniga serves as director of operations for the North Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is a champion for local Hispanic small business owners.

She said the classes she took as a student at the University of Houston College of Education, learning about cultural diversity and educational psychology, help her thrive on the job.

“I understand how learning behaviors of an individual impact the success of an organization,” said Zuniga, an alumna who studied in the Human Development and Family Studies department. “And because of this, I am able to cater to different learning behaviors of my team, volunteers and advisory board in order for all of us to understand the vision and reach our goal as an organization.”

The North Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce helps its members with resources, advocacy and networking to help them succeed in business. While there is no ethnic criteria for joining the chamber, the organization makes specific efforts to educate the Hispanic community and designs many of its programs to be delivered in Spanish.

During any given week, Zuniga develops and facilitates seminars and trains business owners on ways to reach new customers.

Kimberly Schoger, one of Zuniga’s professors at the College of Education, spoke highly of her former student.

“Natalie embodies the aspirations we have for our HDFS graduates,” Schoger said. “She is using the knowledge and skills she honed at UH to be a change agent in the Hispanic community. She will help countless individuals and families to have better lives.”
