DELPS Alum Cydney Peters Credits Higher Ed Program for Success

Cydney PetersCydney Peters, one of the first graduates from the College of Education's (UH COE) online M.Ed in Higher Education program, is currently the Director of Foundation Development & Communications at the Houston Community College (HCC) Foundation.

Peters chose the online master's program for a number of reasons. "Between family and work obligations, I needed an option that fit into my busy schedule," says Peters. "I also knew the M.Ed. program in Higher Education at the UH College of Education was a well-regarded, high-quality program with faculty who had strong academic and professional credentials." With the quick pace of the program, she was able to complete her degree in less than two years.

Peters cites the strength of the program and faculty as essential to her success at UH COE. "The overall strength of the faculty and caliber of instruction is truly amazing at the college," says Peters. "Dr. McKinney was not only my instructor but also an advocate and ambassador on behalf of our small but mighty cohort of three when the online program launched in 2011." Higher Education assistant professor, Lyle McKinney speaks highly of Peters. “Cydney is bright and exceptionally talented," says McKinney. "While thriving in a leadership role at Houston Community College, she excelled academically in the M.Ed. in Higher Education program. We are proud to claim Cydney as a graduate of our program, and proud of all of her many accomplishments.”

Peters has worked in various higher education institutions, including Cornell, the University of Houston, and the HCC Foundation where she is currently working to promote and raise scholarship funds for students.

"My graduate studies at UH COE only fueled my passion for higher education and my desire to impact the next generation through education," says Peters. "Education has the power to transform lives and that’s an incredibly exciting and rewarding mission to be a part of."
