Internships - Ph.D. in School Psychology
All students are required to complete a one year, full-time, predoctoral internship, after faculty have determined that students possess sufficient competency to be successful in an internship placement. This final, "capstone" field experience builds on prior practica, experience, and coursework. It increases competency and independence in comprehensive psychological services and provides experiences that will enhance professional attributes such as:
- Communication skills
- Critical judgment
- Technical skills
Completion of this internship will meet minimal requirements of the following organizations:
- American Psychological Association (APA);
- Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs (CDSPP); and
- The Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP)
Predoctoral internships may take place within the Houston area, or anywhere else in the country.
The internship is not merely "on-the-job training." It is an organized program of training. Students are encouraged to apply for competitive APA accredited internships.
