New UC Room Reservations for Spring 2014 - Available Beginning October 1
Host your next big event or meeting at the NEW UC. Once Phase I of the UC transformation project is complete in January 2014, new spaces will be available to host your next event. Beginning October 1, 2013, the University Center will be accepting reservation requests for the new meeting rooms and event spaces for Spring 2014.
The University of Houston Honors Constitution Day
Constitution day is celebrated on September 17th, the anniversary of the day the framers signed the document. The week of observance at the University of Houston will begin Monday, September 16, and continue through Friday, September 20. The purpose of this week is to encourage the UH community to continue learning and appreciating this living document which, despite its birth over 200 years ago, still plays an integral role in our everyday lives.

Students’ cross-country journey comes to a close
August 29 (The Daily Cougar) - Two UH students cycled across the country this summer in support of people with disabilities — of which about 37 to 56 million reside in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Senior supply chain management major Matthew Docimo and construction management junior Michael Brooks said their journey was meant to teach others to empathize with people living with disabilities.
New center creates student media headquarters
August 27 (The Daily Cougar) - From video to news, entertainment to education, UH’s student-run media covers it all. Now, the Student Video Network, Coog Radio and The Daily Cougar have come together in one entity to create the Center for Student Media.
Commuter Student Services Hosts Kickoff Event
August 26 - For the 2013-2014 school year, the University of Houston is transforming into a more residential campus. Beginning this fall, two new residence halls will open to accommodate the growing population of students enrolling at the university and choosing to live on campus. The University continues to expand its resources, faculty, staff, and programs to ensure that students receive high quality education and an impactful college experience.
New dorms help UH shed image as commuter school
August 25 (Houston Chronicle) - Move-in day at the University of Houston was special this year, especially for the many students lucky enough to get a suite in one of the new residence halls outfitted with sleek lounges, flat-screen TVs and state-of-the-art washers and dryers - which, by the way, are free.
Division of Student Affairs Transitions to New Name
August 23 - Earlier this summer, President Khator announced a reorganization in the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. A component of the reorganization was the realignment of Enrollment Services with Student Affairs. From this point forward, under the leadership of Dr. Richard Walker, Vice Chancellor/Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services, the Division of Student Affairs will be known as the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.
Children’s Learning Centers Staff Awards
August 22 - The Children's Learning Centers (CLC) has two convenient locations on campus that provide quality childcare to University of Houston faculty, staff, and students. The CLC's staff development training, held on Friday, August 16, 2013, comprised of staff recognition and awards. See below for award descriptions and winners.
UH WOW 2013 Set to Kick-Off Fall Semester
August 20 - The University of Houston Weeks of Welcome (UH WOW 2013), which begins Thursday, August 22 through Friday, September 6, is set to kick-off. These two weeks of activities are designed to enhance student success and student engagement. Some types of events highlighted through UH Weeks of Welcome include mixers, luncheons, athletic events, concerts, interest meetings for student organizations, department open houses and major traditions like the Cat's Back Event.
University Center Accessibility Changes
The University Center Circle, which has been closed for construction throughout the summer, will re-open to vehicular traffic on Thursday, Aug. 22.
New Director of Advancement Announced
August 15 - Edward “Eddie” Davis will be the University’s first director of advancement for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services effective August 26, 2013. Eddie garnered excellent experience at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), earning three promotions from development associate to assistant director of development, first with the College of Arts and Sciences and then with Athletics, and was most recently the regional development officer with the EMU Foundation.
New, larger shuttle buses ready to serve the UH campus
July 31 - Larger, more comfortable buses will carry students, faculty and staff around campus this fall on the university's shuttle service. The new fleet for the Cougar Line replaces the smaller temporary shuttles that were put into place last semester when Groome Transportation took over as the new service provider.
New Assistant Director for Alumni Career Services
July 23 - James Mable joined University Career Services as the Assistant Director of Alumni Career Services in May 2013. His role is to serve as liaison between University Career Services and the UH Alumni Association by assisting recent grads and Alumni with employment.

New Director of the Children's Learning Centers Announced
June 6 - Jennifer Skopal has been selected as the new Director for the UH Children's Learning Centers (CLC) effective Monday, June 10, 2013. In her role, Jennifer will direct the daily operations/activities of the Children's Learning Centers to provide instruction and care for children in a safe, healthy, nurturing environment.

SHRL Nominated for Marketer of the Year Award
June 3 - We are pleased to announce that Student Housing & Residential Life has been nominated for the American Marketing Association (AMA) Higher Education (Team) Marketer of the Year Award. The award honors a professional team who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and achievement in the field of higher education marketing.
Director of Assessment and Planning Announced for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services
May 23 - Pamelyn K. Shefman will join the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services as the Director of Assessment and Planning effective July 8, 2013. Pam brings more than 15 years of experience in Student Affairs work to the position.
Division of Student Affairs Holds Second Annual Awards Program
May 10 - On Monday, May 6, 2013, the University of Houston’s Division of Student Affairs held its second annual Division of Student Affairs Awards Program and Luncheon at the University Center. In an effort to honor those who exemplify the Division’s commitment to supporting student success, staff members from the 15 departments were encouraged to nominate colleagues and student employees for 16 award categories, including four new categories this year, that highlight advancing the UH community.
Walkways Between University Center and M.D. Anderson Library Impacted by UC Utility Work for Two Weeks in May
Houston, April 30 – Two consecutive projects will take place in the area, first on May 13 and May 14, the second on May 20 through May 24, 2013. Work will be conducted daily roughly from 6:30AM through 4:00PM. Pedestrian pass-through by the work sites will be available at all time. Steel plates will be available to cover work area for emergencies.
Sigma Nu Fraternity Re-chartered at the University of Houston
On Saturday, April 27th, 2013, members, alumni, and guests gathered at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel and Conference Center to celebrate the re-chartering of the Zeta Chi chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Houston.

Man with a plan stands in presidency
April 1 - At the Student Government Association’s inauguration banquet for the 50th administration on Friday, SGA President Cedric Bandoh was sworn into office for a second time — something that has happened only a handful of times at UH. Bandoh is also the youngest student body president to be elected at UH. More notable is not his fact sheet, but his undeniable dedication for the university he serves.

UC Valentine’s Day Gift Mart Update
Due to the continued power outage at the University Center, the 2013 UC Valentine’s Day Gift Mart will be cancelled. However, those wishing to Stuff-A-Bear with SPB, will still have an opportunity on February 14th as part of the Coca Cola Free Movie night. Animals will be available for stuffing beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Cullen Performance Hall just before the showing of Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2.
