It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome each of you – new and returning students – to the University of Houston. This is a tremendously exciting time to be a Cougar.
Our elevation to Tier One status in 2011 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching was the first in a series of subsequent recognitions that continue to bring prestige to the university and add value to your degree. These include the inclusion of UH in the Princeton Review's list of "best colleges for undergraduate education" and "best value colleges." Equally important, U.S. News & World Report has ranked the University of Houston as No. 7 in the nation among schools graduating students with the least amount of debt!
The university is also experiencing tremendous growth in terms of facilities. Just look around campus. New student housing, new dining halls, and new parking garages are sprouting all around us. Classrooms and labs are being renovated. A spectacular new University Center nears completion, a new stadium is rapidly rising on the west side of campus, and METRO's southeast line, which will connect UH to downtown Houston, is set to open in 2014.
Student success is my administration's top priority, and we are doing all we can to ensure you receive the best education possible in an environment where the talents and skills you bring with you can be developed and enhanced.
Always be confident that every service we provide, every building we construct, every professor we hire, and every scholarship we award, has one common purpose – to ensure your success.
Wear red with pride – especially on Fridays – fill the stands at every home game, study hard, and also have fun.
