Veterans Services (VS) empowers new and current student-veterans, as well as Reserve, Guard, and Active Duty personnel, and their eligible dependent family members. The professional and student staff is available to address the needs and concerns of military and veteran students through a variety of programs, services, and resources.
VS provides academic support and guidance, informational assistance with federal and state educational benefits, and much more. Working closely with UH Veterans Administration (VA) certifying officials in the Office of the University Registrar at the Welcome Center, VS serves more than 1500 students. Faculty and staff also benefit from VS resources.
VS is wheelchair accessible and provides a casual and safe space for students to study, relax, and network with their peers, fostering camaraderie and student involvement. The spacious facility has a computer lab and kitchenette, or quiet room.
The VA has a full-time, experienced Vocational Counselor on the UH campus. This counselor serves as a "one-stop VA liaison" for veterans, active duty military, and their eligible family members who attend or plan to attend UH.
The Student Veterans of America (SVA) is a 501(c)(3) coalition of student-veteran groups on campuses across the nation. The purpose of the SVA is to build camaraderie, provide academic support for veterans and their dependents, reach out to the military and veteran community, and to build veteran awareness on campus. Moreover, the organization hosts social events and workshops, while providing volunteers throughout the community. The UH chapter was established in January 2014.
