Why Go Greek?

  • All but two U.S. Vice-Presidents were Greek
  • Since 1825, the founding of Greek-letter organizations, all but two U.S. Presidents were Greek
  • 7 out of 10 people listed in Who's Who are Greek

  • 43 of the nation's 50 largest corporations are led by Greeks
  • Both females elected to the U.S. Supreme Court were Greek

Delta Zeta's new member program goals reflect the purpose of the Sorority as described in our Constitution, and reflect the vision of the National Council to instill pride, loyalty and commitment in every Delta Zeta. Those goals are:

  • To educate each New Member of the responsibilities of membership and create a respect for the core values and principles of the sorority.
  • To promote a sense of belonging and involvement with the chapter among each New Member.
  • To educate each New Member about life long commitment to Delta Zeta Sorority.
  • To provide educational opportunities for personal growth.
  1. What is rush or new member recruitment?


    It is a time for potential new members to meet Delta Zeta sisters at organized parties and explore what Delta Zeta has to offer them. This is also the time when Delta Zeta sisters to get to know each potential new member before deciding to invite them to become part of the sisterhood.

  2. Who is eligible to become a member of Delta Zeta?


    An undergraduate woman enrolled full time with 10 hours or more, who has at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA, and has the desire to grow in understanding and love as a sister.

  3. Can first term freshman join Delta Zeta?


    Yes a first term freshman may join Delta Zeta, but she must show proof of at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA from high school.

  4. How much time is involved with becoming a sister?


    The new member period is generally eight weeks long, and requires attendance at a new member meeting. Other time requirements would include attending chapter activities, study hours, and socials.

  5. My daughter’s grades are very important to me, how can I be sure that they will not slip during the new member period or after she becomes a sister?


    Individual academic performance is Delta Zeta's number one priority. We have an academics officer that coordinates assistance for sisters needing help in any subject. We also have a faculty advisor on campus to help locate university resources to help all sisters and new members.

  6. Once a sister, how long is membership good for?


    Once you become an initiated member of Delta Zeta, you are a member for life. As a collegiate, you obtain the bond of sisterhood with Delta Zeta National Sorority with 165 chapters across the United States. As an alumna, you have the opportunity to become involved in one of 250 Delta Zeta alumnae chapters located across the United States and Canada.

  7. Does Delta Zeta have a sorority house at the University of Houston?


    Yes, 15 sisters live in the house. It’s a DZ requirement that all sisters live in the house until the house reaches capacity. With that in mind, all newly initiated members are required to move into the house the summer following their new member period.

  8. What chances do I have of becoming a leader in the Delta Zeta chapter?


    You have every chance in the world to become a leader! Delta Zeta has many executive board positions and many chairperson offices, as well as committees for special activities. Delta Zeta also has a 100% chapter involvement directive where we encourage our members to belong to at least one other campus/community organization. We feel that by encouraging our members to participate in other organizations and hold office in these organizations, we are developing well rounded members for Delta Zeta and for the community.
