The West Indian Student Association was inaugurated at the University of Houston. Several
months later it was renamed the Caribbean Student Organization (CSO). The goal of this spirited organization has always centered on the promotion and enhancement
of the Caribbean culture amongst its members and the U of H community as a whole.
CSO aims to create a “home away from
home” for its members, and provides an atmosphere for them to relax and enjoy the food, music and culture that are indigenous to the Caribbean. Our bi-monthly
programs are centered on career and academic development, as well as leadership and scholarship.
Membership in the group consists of mostly
students from various Caribbean islands including Jamaica, The U.S.V.I, St. Kitts, Dominica, Trinidad, and Guyana. We also have a few members from the United
States and India. Currently there are twenty-five (25) dedicated members who pride themselves in the diversity and dynamics of their culture.
As membership continues to grow we are hoping that we can have a stronger impact at the University as well as the wider Houston area.
You
are encouraged to come share with us for we are the only group on campus that can do things the ‘Caribbean way’!
