Learning to lead yourself is just as important as learning to lead others. Through LeadWELL, students will learn the importance of self-care and balance as it relates to leadership. Topics such as time management, stress management, self-care and more will be explored. Development of these skills are crucial to a healthy life and organization.

By participating in LeadWell, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role that personal wellness and well-being play in leadership.
  • Learn the how topics like self-care and balance, healthy communication, time management can impact wellness.
  • Identify changes they may be able to make in their daily life to increase well-being.

To complete the LeadWell program, students must complete the 2 core courses, 2 elective courses, and a capstone reflection paper.

This workshop will introduce participants to the benefits of integrating self-care behaviors into daily life, particularly within the context of balancing various leadership roles and responsibilities. Specific learning topics will include stress-management, setting personal boundaries, coping with perfectionism, and practicing self-compassion. By participating in this workshop, students can expect to learn practical strategies for reducing stress and learning to lead with a greater sense of empathy, both for themselves and others. Facilitated by UH Wellness and CAPS.

Participants of this workshop will explore the meaning of leadership within the multidimensional components of wellness. Students will learn the core principles of effective leadership, including development of interpersonal skills and the importance of personal well-being. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in group discussions and activities involving communication, conflict resolution, and appropriate use of assertive language. Facilitated by UH Wellness.

Brock Wagner, founder and brewer of Houston-based Saint Arnold Brewing Company, will be at UH to speak about optimism and building community through entrepreneurship.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training requires advance registration. Please visit the QPR Suicide Prevention website for available dates and follow instructions to register for a session.

Reflection

Upon completion of the course requirements, participants will be required to complete a capstone reflection paper that will be reviewed by UH Wellness. This will provide each participant the opportunity to reflect on what they have learned in LeadWELL, and what changes they can make in their daily lives to enhance their well-being. To complete this last part of the curriculum, contact Reuben Parrish, Assistant Director of UH Wellness. From there, the prompt will be given to each student.
