The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The MLK Day of Service is one piece of a larger campus-wide initiative to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Join all members of the UH community – incoming students, returning students, faculty, and staff- for a day of service with our campus and community partners working to address social issues facing Houston on Saturday, January 21 in honor of Dr. King. Participants will have the opportunity to choose between the following service shifts:
Shift One: 8:30 am – 1:00 pm
Shift Two: 9:30 am – 2:00 pm
Potential service projects include neighborhood community clean ups, gardening projects, preparing and packaging meals for the elderly, and other beautification projects. Transportation, lunch, a t-shirt, and all materials required for service projects will be provided for all volunteers. Participants will be assigned to service projects the morning of the event. If you wish to volunteer at the same service site with your team, organization, or friends, plan to check in together so we can make every effort to accommodate this request.
