Alan Russell - Assistant Director

I am delighted to be working at the Center for Students with DisABILITIES as Assistant Director. Originally from London, England, I moved here last July and am pleased to be given an opportunity to build upon the experience I have with disability issues to assist students with university life.
I myself am a wheelchair user and am already aware of the many accessibility problems on campus. In the UK, I worked as an Access Auditor and gained expertise in inspecting premises and reporting on their accessibility for people who have a range of different impairments. I have also served as one of the directors of a volunteer advocacy organization, assisting people who have disabilities.
One of the best ways I believe, for students who have disabilities to make their concerns known, is to join the Disabled Students Association (DSA). I am currently working with others to encourage as many students as possible who have different impairments to join. That way the DSA can be a great support network for students to get their concerns aired. It is also great for being able to participate in social activities and enjoying university life.
