Supervision Certification for Licensed Professional Counselors

Program Objectives

  • To define and conceptualize supervision and models of supervision used in counseling
  • To understand the formation and importance of the supervisory relationship and counselor development
  • To develop knowledge of supervision methods and techniques
  • To develop familiarity with roles, focus, and evaluation in supervision
  • To understand legal, ethical, and professional issues and responsibilities related to supervision
  • To develop knowledge of executive and administrative tasks of supervisors

About the Instructor

Mary W. Armsworth, Ed.D., has been a professor in the department of Educational Psychology at the University of Houston since 1985. She has served as Director of Training of the Doctoral Counseling Psychology program, Coordinator of Master’s Counseling programs and has coordinated master’s and doctoral practicum and supervisory experiences. In addition, Dr. Armsworth has 20 years of clinical experience, having practiced as an LPC and as a Licensed Psychologist specializing in intervention development for traumatized and underserved populations. She has more than 80 publications and professional presentations at international, national and regional conferences and more than 35 workshops and training seminars on counseling and therapy related issues. She is executive director of Counseling and Psychotherapy Training Seminars in Houston, Texas.
