Noncredit Policies and Other Important Information
Continuing Education Units (CEU) are offered for full participation in most courses. The CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. To receive CEU for courses participants must attend at least 80 percent of the class sessions and successfully complete the program. (Successful completion is determined by individual program requirements. Some programs may set greater minimum attendance standards.) Continuing education units are recognized nationally as a measure of substantive in-service education and training. Accreditation and Endorsements The University of Houston is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as a Level IV, General postsecondary institution. UH Continuing Education adheres to the SACS criteria for Continuing Education, Outreach and Service Programs and its Guidelines for Awarding the CEU. Individual programs also maintain memberships in associations and organizations related directly to their fields of interest. All program participants are expected to observe accepted principles of academic honesty. Should a violation of the University Academic Honesty Policy be reported, the case will be handled using the same guidelines and policies that apply to students enrolled in academic programs. Confidentiality of Student Records Public information on a students record that may be released upon request includes name, address, telephone number, certificate(s) awarded, current course schedule, and dates of attendance. If you do not want this public information released, you must notify us in writing no later than the end of your first class meeting. A request made to withhold public information remains in effect until revoked in writing. Transcripts of Noncredit Course Work Transcripts of your course record are available upon request with payment of $5 for each transcript requested. Replacement certificates are also available at $5 for each certificate requested. Please provide the following information:
The university reserves the right to make changes without notice in any publication as necessitated by university or legislative action. The material in this web site is provided for information purposes and does not constitute a contract. We reserve the right, when necessary, to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. If we must cancel your class, you may request a full refund. We will notify you at least 48 hours in advance if we must cancel a class. While there are a number of discounts available for Continuing Education courses, they may vary by program. Available discounts are listed for each course in the fee breakdown under Optional Fees. Our refunds policies are being revised. Please call 713-743-1060 or 800-687-5465 for more information. You may transfer a registration from one course to another by notifying the Registration Office at least 10 business days prior to the start of a program. Only one transfer per semester is allowed. The registration may be applied to any other noncredit course UH CE offers. Should the fee for the replacement course be less than your original selection, we will refund you the difference minus a $25 handling fee. If your alternative selection has a higher fee, you must pay the difference plus a $25 handling fee. (The handling fee does not apply if you are transferring your registration from a course we canceled to another course that has not yet begun.) The U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies of copyrighted material. Photocopies may be made for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research as long as the reproduction or distribution is made without any purpose of direct or indirect commercial advantage. The University of Houston will follow the federal law in dealing with violations of the copyright code. No cameras or tape recorders are permitted in classrooms without prior permission from the program director or Director of Continuing Education Continuing education programs of UH Continuing Education are self-supporting. We use course registration feesnot tax money or state appropriated fundsto meet our program development, course operation and overhead costs. We are proud of this fact because it means, first of all, that there is a need for our programs in the marketplace, and secondly, that we must always strive to respond to the needs of the community.
