HCA Healthcare, Inc.
HCA Healthcare, Inc., founded in 1968 and based in Nashville, Tennessee, is one of the nation’s largest operators of health care facilities. In 2018 it managed 178 hospitals and 119 freestanding surgery centers and other facilities in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Based in Houston, HCA Houston Healthcare, a division of HCA Healthcare, Inc., is the largest provider of such services to the Gulf Coast region, treating over one million patients a year. Its physicians, nurses, caregivers and professionals serve in 15 hospitals across Houston, in addition to providing access points for an emergency, specialty, and urgent care.
In line with the University of Houston’s expanded healthcare initiatives, most notably in the new College of Medicine and the College of Nursing, HCA Houston Healthcare has entered into strong partnerships with UH to improve healthcare in the region and the state.
HCA Houston Healthcare will provide generous support for the new Nursing Simulation Center at the University of Houston at Katy, create faculty endowments to increase the number of faculty who provide instructional and/or clinical supervision of Bachelor of Science in Nursing students training at HCA Healthcare hospitals, and create the HCA Healthcare Endowed University Professorship in Undergraduate Programs to provide leadership for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
In addition, HCA Houston Healthcare will create almost 400 resident positions in Texas over six years for new medical graduates, including those who will graduate from our new College of Medicine, to encourage these new doctors to stay in Texas and continue to work in the state’s underserved urban and rural communities.
For its corporate vision, for its commitment to the health of residents of Houston, Texas and the nation, and for its generous support of University of Houston healthcare initiatives, President Renu Khator proudly awards the 2019 President’s Medallion to HCA Healthcare, Inc.
The President’s Medallion is awarded at the sole discretion of the President to organizations that have distinguished themselves by their support of the University of Houston.
