AUDITIONS FOR DANCE

Admissions into the Dance Division for the Dance Major, Minor, and Certification degree programs are by audition only. Students may audition prior to being accepted into the University of Houston (see Undergraduate link). However, the student will not be allowed to enroll into dance classes until they are accepted both by the University and the Dance Program.

• Spring Audition is the last Saturday in March – For students interested in attending the University of Houston Fall semester
• Fall Audition is the last Saturday in October – For students interested in attending the University of Houston in Spring semester

Location: Dance Auditions are held in Melcher Gym dance studio (room 230) located on Holman between Scott & Cullen. Time: 9:30 am Registration (no advance registration necessary) Audition begins: 10:00 am

The audition is structured as a class, starting with ballet barre and then going into center work & across the floor in modern/jazz styles. Students do NOT need to prepare choreography. Please wear appropriate dance attire.

A short student information session about the dance division is held at the end of the audition to review the curriculum, program in general, and to answer questions.

Dance Student Annual Orientation and Pizza Party:

The first week of the Fall semester, the Dance Program holds a dance student orientation on Wednesday at 4pm in Melcher Gym room 230. Melcher Gym is located on Holman St between Cullen & Scott. All dance students are required to attend. The orientation serves as a meet & greet, as well as an opportunity to learn important information about the Dance Program and Dance events for the year.
