The Texas Intensive

Thank you for your interest in the Texas Stage Combat Intensive!

This year, the Texas Intensive (TXi) celebrates thirteen years as a sanctioned regional workshop of the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD)!

The workshop takes place annually on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. This year, that falls on September 3rd & 4th, so mark your calendars now!

Each year, SAFD Fight Masters, Fight Directors and Certified Teachers from around the country gravitate to Houston to offer instruction in the ever-expanding art of stage and screen combat.

We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the University of Houston/Downtown (www.uhd.edu), where the 2016 workshop will again take place. Please join us at our beautiful downtown Houston venue!

Who we are: The Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) is an organization dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the art of performing and teaching stage combat in the United States. More information is available on our website: www.safd.org.

The Texas Intensive Stage Combat Workshop (TXi) is a workshop dedicated to professional skill training and attribute acquisition. We pride ourselves on providing practical combat education to forward careers in the action industry, and to create better, more dynamic performers.

Find out more, and keep up-to-date on everything TXi, on our Facebook page.

What we offer:  TXi classes are geared towards the performance of stage and screen combat, but also offer a wealth of information for directors and aspiring fight choreographers to consider. All skill levels are encouraged to attend, with the understanding that we offer instruction in a rigorous physical discipline.

NEW FOR 2016: Proficiency Tracks

In addition to the traditional “choose your own adventure” workshop model, the TXi now offers immersive curriculum plans for every skill level:

Starter” – this specialized track, specially designed by Fight Director Jack Young, is ideal for those who are new to stage combat, and looking to acquire the foundational skills necessary to flourish in this art.

Foundational” – designates an entry-level course ideal for beginners, or those looking to take their basic skills to the next level.

Open” – these courses are ideal for all students, whether beginners or accomplished combatants, looking to move forward in their training. Open classes will often delve into specialized skill sets, such as Fighting for the Camera, Tumbling and Rolling, Martial Arts from various traditions, and more.

Intermediate” – designates a class for those working at a proficient level with the weapon in question. Those considering an Intermediate class must have already passed a Skills Proficiency Test with the weapon, and had extra training besides. Do not attempt unless you have logged more than 50 training hours in the weapon style.

Advanced” – designates a class for those working at an exceptionally high level, commensurate with professional industry performance standards. Those considering an Advanced class should have already logged over 100 training hours in the weapon style.
